Studied medicine at the universities of Jena and Göttingen; received his M.D. 1775 from the University of Göttingen; 1776 sub-inspector of the Academische Cabinet and associate professor, University of Göttingen; 1778 professor of pharmacy and medicine, same institution; 1783 travelled to Switzerland and 1791-1792 to England; 1812 secretary, Königliche Societät der Wissenschaften, Göttingen; 1835 retirement. |
