1821-1825 studied medicine in Heidelberg; received his M.D. from the University of Heidelberg in 1825 with the dissertation De salis ammoniaci vi et usu; 1826 attended lectures in Paris; 1827-1835 Privatdozent at University of Heidelberg; 1835-1840 associate professor of anatomy at University of Zürich, Switzerland; 1841 retired from academic career and established a private practice in Heidelberg.
