Career: Studies of humanities in Graz, Munich and Berlin; 1905/06 military service; 1909 Dr. phil. in Berlin; stays in Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Scandinavia; 1912 extraordinary assistant at the Psychological Institute of the Berlin University; 1914-18 voluntary service during First World War; return to Germany and in 1921 ordinary assistant at the Psychological Seminar of the Berlin University; 1924 habilitation; 1927 lecturer at the University of Greifswald and in 1931 associate professor; 1938 professor of psychology at the University of Halle; 1941 director of the Institute of Psychology and Pedagogy in Göttingen until receiving the emeritus status in 1948; since 1942 worked as a psychologist for German Armed Forces; member of the National Socialist Teachers Organization.
