Career: 1916 beginning of his career as a filmmaker with work as set designer and assistent director to E. Bauer; 1918 direction of his first film "The Project of the Ingenieur Prait"; 1918-1919 production of several newsreels; 1920 filming of the agitfilm "At the Red Front" at the front; return from war and foundation of the experimental studio for film actors as a branch of the first state filmschool in Moscow; this "Kuleshov-Collective" was joined by Vsevolod Pudovkin, Bela Barnet, Anna Chochlova and other young avant-garde film artists; development of a specific montage-concept, called the "Kuleshov-effect"; 1923 direction of his most famous film "The exceptional adventures of Mister West in the Land of the Bolshewiki" at Goskino; teacher of filmdirecting at the Moscow Film School (WGIK).
