Career: Graduation as a mining engineer; studies of psychology at the University of Michigan; after graduation teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin; 1918 Ph.D. under V. A. C. Henmon; 1916-27 at the University of Wisconsin; 1927-29 at Harvard University; 1929-52 professor of psychology at Yale University; 1936 president of the American Psychological Association.
